As part of our celebrations for International Coaching Week 2025, we thought we’d shine the light on one of our recent graduates…
Meet Carles Gascon
When he stepped through the doors of Nova Terra, he didn’t just learn the art of coaching — he experienced a profound shift. Today, he’s building a coaching business, navigating the balance of excitement and uncertainty, and embracing coaching as a way of thinking, feeling, and being.
His biggest takeaway? The power of self-awareness. Reflecting on his time with us, Carles describes closeness and perseverance — feeling part of a supportive community (his training cohort and trainers) that believed in him every step of the way.
And his advice to anyone considering coaching? Show up with curiosity… so with curiosity in mind, let’s discover some more in this latest instalment of Meet The Graduate:
So Carles, how have you been since we last saw you at Nova Terra?
Good! I've been on a journey. It had already started before NT but my time there was a huge step that changed the possibilities in front of me. There was a before and after.
Where are you now?
I've started my coaching business and I'm working on making it grow so I can reach more people and it can become a sustainable business for me.
How are you using coaching currently?
Certain ideas and principles of coaching changed some fundamental ideas and beliefs in me, so I'd say coaching has become a constant influence in the way I see, feel and think about things. On the practical side, I already have several clients that I coach, so I use it for my activity in the sessions but also in the way I interact with potential clients and build relationships.
How does that make you feel?
My first answer would be excited and scared, but that would be regarding the launch of a new business. If I think about this question a bit deeper, what comes to me is gratitude. Discovering coaching and what I've learnt in NT has sent me in a personal and professional journey that has not always been easy, but that I feel lucky I get to explore in my life. For that, I'm grateful.
What did you appreciate most about your time at Nova Terra?
The closeness and perseverance. Closeness because from the beginning I felt like a member of the family. Somehow, it didn't feel only like going to a school where you are going to learn a set of new skills (you also get that ofc), but for me there was a sense of belonging. Perseverance because I felt supported at all times, no matter what. Some things come easier than others for different people and I always felt like they got my back and believed in me in order to bring my uniqueness into my coaching.
What would you have done differently?
I don't think I would change how I did things. There are always things you could do differently but if I look at the big picture, I'm very happy with how things went and the experience I lived, and I would not change that.
What did you learn most about yourself whilst following the Mastery & Art of Coaching?
Self development is a huge part of the program, it's an inevitable part of learning the art of coaching, I believe. This to say that there is a lot to pick from in terms of what I learnt about myself. Maybe the one I was most blind about is the tendency to please others and how that has touched me and my relationships.
How has that learning supported you in your current endeavours?
Looping back to learning the art of coaching, I know it's something that "I need to keep an eye on" when I coach someone. In terms of developing the new business, I know it's something that sometimes can get me stuck because I think too much about what others might think, feel or assume and not enough about what and why I want to do or try something.
What would be the one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering the Mastery & Art of Coaching?
If you want to get the most out of it (in my opinion), approach it with a white canvas. I think this program can be a transformative experience or just another tool in your toolbox. The difference between these two is how open to change you are when you go through it.
Would you do it all over again?
Yes.
What would you say to the younger you as you stepped through our doors for the first time?
Enjoy the ride and take in as much as you can, but don't take things too seriously either!
How are you feeling about your future?
It's interesting because in what I consider a quite uncertain period with the rise of AI and the current economic situation, I feel quite confident and excited about what my future can bring
In three words - describe who you are, right now.
Dad. Light. Ready.
Is there anything else you’d like to add, that someone reading this ought to know?
It is my belief that investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. Regardless of how that investment looks like for you, if you have the feeling that it's your time, go for it :)
How would you like to close this interview?
Thanking NT to give me the opportunity to share my thoughts and experience and encouraging anybody to reach out if they want to know more.
