In a world that lately seems to spin faster by the day, it’s easy to forget that creativity is not a luxury, nor is it a finite resource. It’s not something reserved for artists, writers, or musicians. Creativity is how we make meaning, solve problems, and imagine new ways forward in our lives, our relationships, and our work.

For those of us who are coaches, leaders, HR professionals, or simply humans giving so much of ourselves, creativity is not optional. It’s vital. It’s what enables us to adapt, to lead with heart, to find fresh perspectives, and to reconnect with the deeper purpose behind all the busyness.

So Where Has Our Creativity Gone?

The truth is, most of us haven’t “lost” our creativity. We’ve just misplaced it, or overlooked it. Taken it for granted. This last point can arguably be seen as a modern pandemic.

Our creativity gets buried under email threads, meetings, and to-do lists. It hides when we spend too long in problem-solving mode, searching the whys and wherefores. It drifts away when we’re constantly caring for others, putting others’ needs first (people pleasers beware!) but forget to replenish ourselves.

And yet when we pause, even for a moment, creativity stirs. A sudden insight while walking. A new idea over coffee. A natural falling into place as you balance between effort and surrender on the yoga mat. It can even be a sense of possibility after a good night’s sleep. Creativity never leaves us. This is less about absence and more about presence. In essence, our creative juices simply wait for us to return, to quench our thirsts.

Why This Matters for Coaches and Leaders

As coaches and leaders, creativity is the ground on which we stand. It’s the ability to:

  • Listen differently: To hear what isn’t being said, and to trust intuition (as well as analysis).
  • Ask new questions: To explore beyond the familiar, so that others discover new ways of seeing.
  • Imagine futures: To hold vision, even in uncertainty, and inspire people to move towards it.

When we’re disconnected from our creativity, we rely on habit. We default to old answers, what we know - we work from the head. We lose the spark that makes our work meaningful.

But when we reconnect with it, something shifts. We become more present, more resourceful, more open. We begin to work from the heart. We bring freshness into rooms that are stuck. And we model what it means to live from a place of wholeness rather than depletion.

Why This Matters for HR Professionals and Organisations

For those working with people, whether in HR or wider organisational roles, creativity is at the heart of thriving workplaces.

It’s what helps us design systems that value humanity, not just efficiency.

It’s what fuels the courage to ask: what if there’s another way?

It’s what transforms challenges into invitations for growth.

In times of disruption and change, organisations don’t just need technical solutions. They need people who can think imaginatively, respond flexibly, and create cultures of belonging and possibility. Much like the sense of belonging and seeing ourselves that we can find in the masterpiece of a great artist, we can also become the artists who create masterpieces in our organisation; creating a sense of safety, of belonging and inclusion. All this arrives through a creative lens.

Why This Matters for All of Us

And beyond our roles or professions, creativity matters because it is a profoundly human trait.

It’s in the way we cook a meal, arrange flowers, tell a story, or make a home. It’s how we make sense of the world and of ourselves - our ability to tell a story, or choose what story we want to write for ourselves moving forward. It’s the thread that connects us back to our sense of wonder, joy and fulfilment.

To ignore it is to cut ourselves off from our self-worth, our own cultivated sense of pride in who we are. To honour it is to return to a deeper rhythm - the one that quietly pulses through your veins and gently invites to put yourself in the same priority as you put others.

A Day to Return

That’s why we created the Urban Retreat: A Gentle Return To Your Creative Self

On November 7th at Nova Terra HQ in Uccle, we’re holding space for coaches, leaders, HR professionals, and soulful creatives to step away from the noise and reconnect with the quiet pulse of creativity.

It’s a day of stillness, reflection, journaling, embodied practices, and soulful conversation. A day to pause, replenish, and remember what truly nourishes you.

You don’t need to be an artist to be creative. You only need the space to breathe and listen and the courage to come home to yourself.

Pause for thought?

So, why does creativity matter?

Because it’s the compass that helps us find our way when everything else feels uncertain.

Because it gives us back the spark that daily life often dulls.

Because without it, we risk living on autopilot.

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

— Maya Angelou
